Set up a Meta Business Account

The Meta Business portfolio is the legal container for every Page, ad account, and WABA.

A Meta Business Account (sometimes called a "portfolio") is the legal container that owns your Facebook Pages, Instagram accounts, WhatsApp Business Accounts, and ad accounts. Every other Meta asset attaches to it.

If you already have one — skip to Creating a Facebook Page. Most teams who've ever run a Facebook ad already have one without realising.

How to check if you already have one
Visit business.facebook.com while signed in to Facebook. If a dashboard loads with a sidebar of Business Settings, you have one. If you see a "Create Account" prompt, you don't.

Create a Meta Business Account

  1. Go to business.facebook.com

You'll need to be signed in to a personal Facebook account. That's required by Meta — the Business Account is owned by your business but created and administered by a real person.
  2. Click 'Create Account'

Enter your business name (exact legal entity name is best — it shows up on invoices), your name, and your work email. Use the same email you'll use to communicate with Meta on verification — it can be changed later but matching from the start is cleaner.
  3. Fill out business details

Country, address, phone number, website. Use your real business address and phone — Meta cross-references these during Business Verification. Mismatches cause weeks of delay.
  4. Add yourself as an admin

By default, the person creating the account is added as an admin. You can invite teammates as Admin, Employee, or Finance Editor later from Business Settings → People.
  5. Verify your email

Meta sends a confirmation link. Click it. The Business Account is live, but isn't yet "verified" (that's a separate process — see Business Verification).

What to do next

With the Business Account in place, you can:

  • Add or claim a Facebook Page (next step in the integration).
  • Add Instagram, WhatsApp, and ad accounts as assets under Business Settings → Accounts.
  • Invite teammates — give devs/marketers access without sharing your personal Facebook login.
  • Start Business Verification. The 3–7 day queue starts now, so do it in parallel.
Don't create multiple Business Accounts
Each person can administer multiple Business Accounts, but spreading your assets across two or more accounts will break the {brand.name} connection — assets must all live under one portfolio. If you have duplicates, consolidate before connecting.
