How Meta bills your business directly for WhatsApp, and what you need to set up.

WhatsApp conversation fees are charged by Meta directly to your business, separate from your Zymbler subscription.Zymblerdoesn't mark up, resell, or pass through messaging costs. Two invoices, two relationships.

The TL;DR
Your first 1,000 service conversations per month are free. Beyond that, and for any marketing or utility templates, you need a payment method on your WhatsApp Business Account.

How Meta's billing works

Meta meters conversations, not individual messages. A conversation is a 24-hour window between you and a contact. As many messages as you want fit inside one conversation.

There are three conversation categories, each priced differently:

  • Service — initiated by the customer (they messaged you first). First 1,000 per month free; beyond that, ~$0.005 per conversation depending on country.
  • Utility — order confirmations, shipping updates, appointment reminders. Requires a pre-approved template. ~$0.005–$0.02 per conversation.
  • Marketing — promotional messages, sales blasts. Requires a pre-approved template. ~$0.02–$0.10 per conversation, varies heavily by country.

Adding a payment method to your WABA

  1. Go to WhatsApp Manager.
  2. Switch to the Business Account that owns your WABA, if you have multiple.
  3. Sidebar → Payment settings(sometimes under "Settings").
  4. Add payment method → enter card details, billing address, GSTIN (India) / VAT (EU) if applicable.
  5. Save. Your WABA can now send paid templates and exceed the free tier.
Without a payment method
Meta caps you at 1,000 free service conversations / month. After that, new conversations are blocked until billing is set up. Marketing and utility templates are blocked from message #1.

What "direct billing" means for you

  • You get two invoices. One from Zymbler (your subscription, monthly/annually). One from Meta (WhatsApp conversations, monthly in arrears).
  • You own the WABA. If you ever stop using Zymbler, your WhatsApp number, templates, and quality rating stay with your business — there's no lock-in.
  • You see usage in Meta's tools. WhatsApp Manager shows conversations, costs, and templates. Zymbler shows you everything that happened in the conversations (which is what you actually care about for sales).
  • Zymbler's pricing doesn't scale with your volume. Send 100 or 100,000 messages a month — your Zymbler plan is flat.

Estimating your monthly WhatsApp bill

A back-of-napkin formula for a typical D2C team:

Marketing campaigns:    (sends/mo × marketing rate)
Order/shipping updates: (utility conversations/mo × utility rate)
Customer support:       max(0, service conversations - 1,000) × service rate

For most teams running ads and following up actively, the monthly Meta bill ranges from $20–$200. Customers running heavy outbound marketing campaigns trend higher.
