Connect WhatsApp to Zymbler

The OAuth + Embedded Signup walkthrough, step by step.

7 min read

Zymbleruses Meta's Embedded Signup — a single popup that walks you through creating (or selecting) a WhatsApp Business Account, adding a phone number, setting a Display Name, and granting Zymblerthe access tokens it needs. End-to-end, it's a 5–10 minute flow.

Before you start
Make sure you've already:

The connection flow

  1. In Zymbler: Settings → Integrations → Connect WhatsApp

Click the button. A popup opens to Meta. Don't close it — losing the popup means restarting.
  2. Sign in to your Facebook account

Use the personal account that's an Admin on your Meta Business Account. Meta will list which Business Account(s) you can use.
  3. Select your Meta Business Account

If you have one, pick it. If you don't, you'll be prompted to create one — but we recommend creating it at business.facebook.com first instead, for cleaner asset ownership.
  4. Select or create a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA)

A WABA is the WhatsApp equivalent of a Facebook Page. You can have multiple WABAs under one Business Account (one per brand, for example).
  5. Add your phone number

Pick the country code, then enter the number. Meta will send a 6-digit OTP via SMS or voice call to verify ownership. If you see "Phone Number In Use", the number is still on another WhatsApp account — see Free up an existing WhatsApp number.
  6. Set your Display Name

This is what recipients see as the sender (e.g., "Sundara Yoga"). It must match your brand or legal entity name. Generic names like "Customer Support" or location-based names like "Mumbai Office" get rejected.
  7. (Optional) Add a payment method

Meta gives 1,000 free service conversations per month per WABA. If you plan to send marketing templates or expect higher volume, add a card now. You can add later from WhatsApp Manager. How WhatsApp billing works →
  8. Review permissions, click Continue

Meta will show what Zymbler is being granted: read messages, send messages, manage templates, receive webhooks. These are standard for any WhatsApp Business Platform integration.
  9. Popup closes, Zymbler shows your connection

You'll land on the Integrations dashboard with your WABA listed, phone number verified, and Display Name showing as "Pending review"if it's new.

What happens immediately after

Zymbler automatically:

  • Subscribes the WABA to message webhooks — so inbound messages start flowing into your inbox.
  • Stores a long-lived access token (encrypted at rest) per workspace — so the AI can send replies.
  • Creates a default flow if you don't have one yet — so messages don't just sit unanswered.

You can immediately:

  • Receive inbound messages from anyone who has your number.
  • Reply to messages within the 24-hour service window without needing a template.
  • Build and assign flows to this WABA.

You cannot yet:

  • Send marketing or utility templates — those need template approval (~1 hour per template).
  • Use the branded Display Name — that's in Meta's review queue (24h–7d). Until then, recipients see your phone number.
  • Send beyond Meta's tier-1 messaging limit (250 business-initiated conversations / 24h) until your number ages and quality rating goes up.
Test it before sharing the number publicly
Have a colleague WhatsApp the number from their personal phone. Check that the message lands in your Zymbler inbox within ~5 seconds. If it does, the connection is healthy.

Common gotchas during connection

  • The popup closes silently mid-flow. Pop-up blockers (uBlock, Privacy Badger) sometimes kill it. Disable for facebook.com and retry.
  • "Insufficient permissions".You're not an Admin on the Business Account or WABA. Ask your Meta administrator to upgrade your role.
  • The OTP doesn't arrive. Wait 60 seconds, then switch to voice-call verification. SMS can be slow internationally; voice usually arrives in 10 seconds.
  • Display Name rejected.Meta rejects names that are generic ("Customer Service"), geographic ("Delhi Office"), or look like impersonation. Use your brand or legal entity name and resubmit.
